What is your go to cold sore remedy when you feel that first tingle?
I get a cold sore a few times a year, usually after a stressful week or a lot of sun, and I feel that tingle before anything shows up. I have tried Abreva and lysine and I keep an SPF lip balm on hand, but I never know what actually helps me feel better fastest. What do you all reach for the moment you feel one starting?
I keep lysine in my bag and lean on cold compresses for comfort. It is not a fix, but a cool cloth and not touching my face keeps me from making it feel worse.
The tingle is my signal to slow down, drink more water, and get to bed early. I also switch to a plain lip balm with SPF because chapped lips seem to make everything feel worse for me.
Honestly, for me it is about stress and sun. Once I started wearing SPF on my lips daily and managing my sleep, my fever blister flare ups felt less frequent, and I always check with my doctor for anything HSV related.
Honestly the moment I feel it I just stop and grab a lip balm with a bit of sun protection in it, keep my lips covered and hydrated, and try not to touch it because picking always makes mine so much worse. Doesn't work every single time but it's cut down how bad they get for me.
Thank you for sharing this, going to try it.
Great question, I have wondered the same thing.
Thanks for posting. The thing I wish I had learned sooner is to respect the early tingle window and to protect proactively rather than wait. Keep the lips shielded on high UV and cold days, protect your sleep, and be kind to yourself. This is a support space and for a clinical read you can use the Clinic.
Honestly the second I feel that tingle I put an ice cube on it for a few minutes and try to get an early night, because for me lack of sleep is half the battle and catching it early seems to make the whole thing smaller and shorter.
Honestly the second I feel that tingle I grab an ice cube wrapped in a cloth and hold it there for as long as I can stand, then I just try not to touch it and get a decent night's sleep. Doesn't always stop it but it definitely takes the edge off for me.
Honestly the moment I feel that tingle I grab an ice cube wrapped in a paper towel and hold it there for a few minutes, then I try really hard to keep my hands off it and get to bed early. Doesn't always stop it but it seems to shorten things when I catch it fast enough.
Honestly the second I feel that tingle I grab an ice cube wrapped in a paper towel and hold it there for as long as I can stand it, then keep my hands off my face for the rest of the day. It doesn't always stop it but it seems to keep things smaller and shorter for me, and just doing something makes me feel less helpless about it.
