Anyone else get an outbreak after a dentist appointment?
I had a cleaning on Tuesday and by Thursday there was that familiar tingle in the exact spot where they were stretching my lip. This has happened twice now so I don't think it's a coincidence, maybe the friction or maybe just how tense I get in that chair. Do any of you prep somehow before a dental visit, or do you just accept it and schedule cleanings when nothing important is coming up?
Alex from Labisan here. You are not alone with this, it is far more common than people admit. The most reproducible lever for most of us is UV, so a daily mineral SPF lip balm plus steady sleep is where I would start. Log what you notice and the pattern usually shows itself.
Yes, every single time, and I used to think it was the numbing shot but I'm pretty sure now it's just my mouth being stretched open for an hour plus the stress of it all. I started asking the hygienist to go easy on my lips and putting balm on right before I go in, which has helped a bit but not completely.
Yes, every single time, I think it's all the stretching and the bright light in my face for an hour that does it. I've started asking for extra breaks now and it seems to help a little, though honestly I still get nervous booking cleanings.
Yes, every single time, I think it's the stretching and the numbing spray irritating my lip, so now I warn the hygienist ahead of time and it seems to help a bit.
