Do you reschedule dentist appointments when you feel one coming on?
I have a cleaning booked for Thursday and yesterday I felt that familiar tingle on my bottom lip. Part of me feels ridiculous calling to reschedule over something so small, but the idea of someone stretching my mouth open for forty minutes mid outbreak sounds awful, and I have read it can make things worse or spread. Do you just power through and tell the hygienist, or push the appointment? Curious what everyone else does because I always feel awkward explaining the reason.
Welcome. The two things worth knowing early: it is very common, and it is far more preventable than most people realise.
Honestly yes, I rescheduled a cleaning last year because I could feel that tingle starting and I just knew having someone's hands stretching my lip for an hour would make it so much worse. My dentist's office was really understanding about it, way more than I expected.
I used to power through and just feel awkward the whole time, but honestly rescheduling was the best thing I ever started doing for myself. My dentist has never once made me feel bad about it, and I wish someone had told me sooner that it's okay to ask.
Honestly yes, I rescheduled a cleaning last spring the second I felt that tingle, and my dentist was totally understanding about it. I'd rather push it a week than sit there worrying about it the whole time.
Honestly yes, I've pushed a cleaning back twice this year because the idea of someone stretching my lip at that stage made me wince. My hygienist was totally fine about it once I explained, so I stopped feeling weird asking.
Honestly yes, I've pushed back a cleaning twice because I could feel that tingle starting and didn't want the hygienist stretching my lip around for an hour and making it worse. Every receptionist has been way more understanding about it than I expected, so now I just call and say I'm not feeling great and they slot me in a week later.
