Anyone else feel guilty about not sharing drinks or lip balm with friends?

Last weekend a friend reached for my water bottle at a picnic and I just said no without explaining, and she looked kind of hurt. I have never had an outbreak from sharing stuff as far as I know, but I have been careful for years and it has become a reflex. Do you explain why or just let people think you are weird about germs? I hate that this tiny thing turns into a whole moment.

Great question, and you are not alone with this. Catching the trigger early is where most of the difference comes from.

Honestly yes, I used to feel like the weird one always saying no thanks to a sip, but I finally realized my friends would rather I be a little awkward than pass something along, and most of them never even noticed.
