How do you keep cold sores away? Does lysine, abreva, or spf lip balm help?
I get a fever blister every time I am stressed or out in the sun too long, and I am tired of only reacting after it shows up. I keep abreva on hand but I would rather focus on prevention in the first place. For those of you managing hsv outbreaks, what daily habits actually help you, things like lysine, spf lip protection, or avoiding chapped lips?
Wearing a lip balm with spf every single day made the biggest difference for me, since sun exposure was my main trigger. I also try not to let my lips get chapped in winter because cracked skin seemed to invite trouble.
For me it comes down to sleep and stress, when I run myself down I notice tingles more often. A lot of people here also take lysine as part of their routine, might be worth asking your doctor if it fits for you.
Staying hydrated and keeping a consistent routine helped me more than any single product. I still keep abreva in my bag just in case, but focusing on overall wellness has meant fewer surprises.
For me it's mostly sunscreen lip balm and sleep honestly, I notice way more outbreaks when I've been out in the sun or running on empty. Lysine never did much for me but some people here swear by it, so it might be worth a cheap trial run.
Honestly what changed things for me was figuring out my triggers, mine flare up after long days in the sun so I got religious about protecting my lips before ski trips and beach days. Lysine never did much for me personally but everyone seems different, so it might be worth a cheap experiment to see if it helps you.
For me the biggest thing was figuring out my triggers, once I realized sun and wind set mine off I got religious about covering my lips before ski days and I get way fewer outbreaks now. Lysine never did much for me personally but everyone seems different, so it might be worth a try.
For me it was figuring out my triggers, sun and stress mostly, so I got religious about spf on my lips and honestly that cut mine way down. I tried lysine for a while too but couldn't tell if it did much for me.
