Took daily Valtrex for what I thought was a cold sore, now feeling rough, anyone else?
I felt a tingle on my lip and assumed a fever blister was coming, so I took a high dose of Valtrex every single day for two weeks. Now I have headaches, feel foggy, and I am honestly not sure it was ever a real cold sore, it might have just been badly chapped lips. Has anyone else mixed up chapped lips with an actual outbreak and gone overboard? How do you tell the difference before reaching for anything?
I once panicked over what turned out to be windburned lips, now I keep a lip balm with spf on me year round and the chapped lip scares mostly stopped. Sunscreen on the lips was a game changer for me.
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist about those side effects, they are the right people to tell you what is normal and what is not. Hope you feel better soon.
For me a true fever blister always starts with that distinct burning tingle, plain chapped lips just feel dry and tight. When I am unsure I focus on sleep, hydration and lowering stress, since those are my biggest triggers anyway.
Great question, and you are not alone with this. Catching the trigger early is where most of the difference comes from.
Great question, I have wondered the same thing.
