Any alternatives to the L'Oréal lip balm for cold sore prone chapped lips?
I have been using the L'Oréal lip in balm for a while and I like how it keeps my chapped lips soft, but it is getting hard to find near me. I get the occasional fever blister so I try to keep my lips from drying out and cracking in the first place. Is there a similar balm you like, ideally something with spf since sun seems to be a trigger for me?
I switched to a plain petrolatum based balm with spf 30 and my lips have stayed comfortable all summer. Keeping them protected from sun and wind made a big difference for me.
I like balms that list ceramides or shea butter high on the ingredients, they feel close to the L'Oréal one. I also carry a separate spf stick for outdoor days since sunlight is a common cold sore trigger.
Not a balm tip exactly, but I focus on the basics, staying hydrated, managing stress and sleep, and some people in this community also talk about lysine as part of their wellness routine. For the balm itself, anything gentle and fragrance free works well for me.
honestly I ditched the fancy stuff and just look for something really plain with an spf in it, the fewer ingredients the better for my lips. staying boring and reapplying way more often than feels necessary has helped me more than any specific brand ever did.
honestly what helped me most was ditching anything with fragrance or menthol, my lips would flare up every time with those. a plain boring balm with some spf that I actually reapply during the day has done more for me than any fancy one ever did.
Winter is worse for me too, the cold cracks my lips first.
Welcome, and do not feel low, it is so common and manageable.
Protecting my lips before skiing changed everything for me.
