Anyone else get a flare up after every dentist appointment?

GentleOtter42 · 30d ago · 8 upvotes
I swear every time I have a dental cleaning I get that tingle on my lip within a day or two. I read it might be from the stretching and the bright light but honestly it could just be the stress of sitting in that chair. I have another appointment next month and I am already dreading it more for the cold sore than the drilling. Has anyone found a way to head this off, or do you just accept it as part of the deal?

Really glad you posted this. Prevention over treatment is the shift that helped me most, and it sounds like you are already there.

Stress is my number one trigger too, nothing else comes close.

Thank you for sharing this, going to try it.

Oh yes, every single time, I think for me it's the combo of my mouth being stretched open for so long plus the stress of just being there. I've started asking for a break halfway through longer appointments and it seems to help a little.

Yes, every single time, I think it's the stretching and the bright light aimed at my mouth for an hour that sets it off, so now I ask for breaks and start babying my lips a few days before the appointment.

Yes, every single time, I used to think it was just bad luck until I noticed the pattern with all that stretching and the bright light on my mouth. Now I just plan for it and go easy on my lips for a few days after.

I felt the same when I started, it does get easier.
