About Labisan

Labisan was born in 1931 at the Maria Schutz Pharmacy, nestled in the Austrian Alps. Created to shield skin against the relentless cold, wind, and UV radiation of high altitude life, it quickly became the trusted companion of mountaineers, skiers, and outdoor workers across Austria.

By 1936, Labisan had been trademarked internationally, and its reputation spread far beyond the Alps. Then came 1953: Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay carried Labisan to the summit of Mount Everest on the first successful ascent. That same year, Hermann Buhl relied on Labisan during his legendary solo summit of Nanga Parbat. No product on Earth had been tested at such extremes.

The legacy continued through the decades. In 1985, Luggi Rieser brought Labisan on Reinhold Messner's Annapurna expedition. In 1995, Theo Fritsche and Roland Mattle summited Dhaulagiri at 8,167 metres with Labisan in their packs. And in 1998, a Vorarlberg expedition to Makalu at 6,600 metres once again counted on the same Austrian formula.

In 1990, the product line expanded: Labisan med became available exclusively through pharmacies, while Labisan Protective continued as the everyday lip protection anyone could purchase. Today, Labisan is produced by Nascyma Pharma GmbH in Vienna, Austria, carrying forward nearly a century of Alpine heritage.
