The second I feel a tingle I dab on abreva and keep a clean cotton swab handy so I am not spreading it around with my fingers. Staying consistent at that early stage makes the biggest difference for me.
I take lysine daily and try to keep my stress and sleep in check, since that is when I notice more flare ups. I also switched to an spf lip balm and my chapped lips settled down a lot.
Cold compresses and keeping my lips moisturized help me feel more comfortable while things calm down. If anything ever looks unusual or keeps coming back I check in with my doctor just to be safe.
Thanks for posting. The thing I wish I had learned sooner is to respect the early tingle window and to protect proactively rather than wait. Keep the lips shielded on high UV and cold days, protect your sleep, and be kind to yourself. This is a support space and for a clinical read you can use the Clinic.
