Catching the tingle early is the biggest thing for me, I keep a treatment stick in my bag so I am never waiting until the next day to start. The first few hours seem to matter more than anything I do later.
SPF lip balm made a noticeable difference in my summer flare ups, I reapply every couple of hours when I am outside. Sun and wind used to be my most reliable trigger and now they are much less of one.
I focus on the boring stuff, sleep, hydration, and keeping my lips from getting chapped in winter. When I let myself run down for a week or two, that is usually when I notice one showing up.
Thanks for posting. The thing I wish I had learned sooner is to respect the early tingle window and to protect proactively rather than wait. Keep the lips shielded on high UV and cold days, protect your sleep, and be kind to yourself. This is a support space and for a clinical read you can use the Clinic.
Great question, I have wondered the same thing.
