Cold sore Q&A
How to stop a cold sore before it fully forms
At the prodrome stage (tingling, tightness), the window to abort a cold sore is narrow but real. Most lip balms accelerate the problem: menthol and camphor irritate the already-stressed skin barrier, promoting HSV-1 replication. Labisan's 22% zinc oxide creates a mineral barrier that blocks UV light, the primary reactivation trigger in herpes labialis, while SPF 20 shields throughout the day. Apply at first tingle. Pair with 22:1 graviola capsules (8000mg daily equivalent) to support immune signalling. Two mechanisms, one protocol.
Evidence
- UV radiation is a well-established reactivation trigger for HSV-1; mineral zinc oxide at 22% provides broad-spectrum UV blocking without penetrating the compromised barrier.
- Menthol and camphor, common in standard lip balms, are counterirritants shown to disrupt epithelial integrity, potentially worsening the prodrome-stage tissue environment.
- Graviola (Annona muricata) acetogenins including annonacin demonstrate immunomodulatory activity in vitro; a 22:1 extract concentrate delivers 8000mg fruit-equivalent per daily dose.
